Memoir as Poetry

Writing Workshop with Linda Freeman

Sunday, January 22, from 1:30-3:00pm

You’ve got much to say. A lived life. Putting it all down on paper doesn’t have to be a daunting task! In this roll-up-our-sleeves writing workshop we will get to work with pen and paper to unleash your stories and memories and explore poetic devices that can make them sing. This will be a fun, supportive creative writing workshop designed to get your words flowing.

As writers, we’ve been told to write what we know, and the memoir has become a very popular literary form. This workshop will explore using poetry as memoir, as the instructor did in her book, The Family Plot (Backroom Window Press, 2022). Part craft discussion, part generative, this workshop will delve deeply into what moves a poem from sentimental to sizzling, and from individual to universal. With a frank look at truth, revelations, family secrets and more. Please bring a notepad and pen and be ready to write!

Registration is required, as spaces are limited.

In the event of inclement weather, this program will take place virtually.
