Featuring:

Noah Haidu/Piano, Eric Wheeler/Bass and Kush Abadey/Drums

http://www.noahhaidu.com/

Pianist and composer Noah Haidu is evidence that 21st century jazz can be adventurous, fresh and swing hard, that an exciting, modern pianist can play memorable melodies and soulful rooves. His powerful Posi-Tone Records debut SLIPSTREAM garnered rave reviews and 8 weeks in the top 50 national jazz radio charts. Now, even as tracks from SLIPSTREAM remain in heavy rotation, Noah has released his acclaimed follow-up INFINITE DISTANCES on the Cellar Live Label. Noah has a passion for live performance. Wed May 3, 2017

7pm Jimmy Thackery & The Drivers

Where: The Falcon Main Stage

http://www.jimmythackery.com/

Featuring:

Jimmy Thackery/Vocals/Guitar, Rick Knapp/Bass, George Sheppard/Drums, Chris Reddan/Drums and Special Guest Bruce Katz/Organ/Piano

Singer, songwriter, and guitar virtuoso Jimmy Thackery carved an enviable niche for himself in the world of electric blues, known for his gritty, blue-collar approach and marathon live shows,

Thackery co-founded and spent fourteen years as part of The Nighthawks, one of the hardest-working blues bar bands in North America. Touring under his own name since 1987, he found widespread acceptance on the festival circuit. His hard-edged, tough-as-nails approach to guitar playing and his trio’s driving rhythm section holds appeal for fans of Muddy Waters, Bruce Springsteen and Joe Grushecky. Hardcore blues like “It’s My Own Fault” and popular blues-rock chestnuts like “Red House” from Jimi Hendrix are fair game for Thackery & his Drivers, which included Michael Patrick on bass and Mark Stutso on drums and vocals. Jimmy Thackery & the Assassins toured till they split up in 1991. Jimmy Thackery & the Drivers, quickly forged a name on the blues festival and club circuit through prolific recording and roadwork. His 1998 album, SWITCHING GEARS, includes guest performances by Joe Louis Walker, Lonnie Brooks, Chubby Carrier, and Francine Reed, but any of Thackeray’s albums will delight fans of tough, heavy, driving guitar playing.

7pm Johnny Nicholas & Hellbent with Scrappy Jud Newcomb

Where: The Falcon Main Stage

http://johnnynicholasblues.com/

“Johnny Nicholas is one of the best bluesmen ever, black or white.” Stephen Bruton

From Austin TX!

When it comes to Americana Roots Music and Blues, the late great Stephen Bruton (of Kris Kristofferson and TBone Burnett) knew what he was talking about. Those who knew him knew that he always got to

the point. His description of his longtime friend and musical comrade in arms is succinct and quite a heady compliment, but then, Johnny Nicholas is an amazing talent.

For four decades Johnny has toured, performed and recorded with numerous Blues and Americana Roots legends including: Mississippi Fred McDowell, Robert Lockwood Jr., Johnny Shines, Big Walter Horton, Roosevelt Sykes, Nathan Abshire, Robert Pete Williams, Eddie Taylor, Billy Boy Arnold, Hound Dog Taylor, Johnny Young, Houston Stackhouse, and Boogie Woogie Red. Nicholas was the lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist with the Grammy-winning Asleep at the Wheel, and gave Blues Guitar Icon Ronnie Earl his first gig in the now legendary band, Guitar Johnny and the Rhythm Rockers. The common thread between these influences is that of a true storyteller and troubadour, a living connection to the roots of American music that began in the Mississippi Delta and continues to flow down the river of traditional and contemporary sounds that emanate from Johnny Nicholas.

Scrappy Jud Newcomb

http://www.scrappyjud.com/

“Scrappy” Jud Newcomb is a Mississippi boy who hit Austin in the late eighties as a young guitar virtuoso, and evolved into a pillar of the local scene. As his reputation got around he became the go-to guitarist for a host of artists, on stage and in the recording booth.

Newcomb is the Austin version of the big-hair-guitar-god. He can play anything with anybody at any time. When it’s his turn you’ll want to hear every phrase, every nuance, every lick. He’ll close his eyes and slip somewhere far away, and the beauty will just pour from his fingers like praise from a mother’s lips. Newcomb really shines as a solo artist, having released three albums of captivating original work, including Turbinado (2003), Byzantine (2005), and Ride the High Country (2008). He is also a key creative force behind a number of great albums by The Resentments.

Thu May 4, 2017

7pm Andy Stack’s American Soup

Where: The Falcon Underground

Featuring:

Andy Stack/Guitar, Jesse Murphy/Bass, Michael Bram/Drums.

“Andy Stack’s American Soup” freewheels through American Classics from Duke Ellington to Hank Williams.

As leader and a solo artist, Stack’s approach to songwriting, guitar playing and singing is sweeping. He generates creative expression with broad strokes. He builds momentum with nuance, but he comes at you with a full-throttle approach that lifts you up and places you back down gently.

Stack knows when to apply pressure. And he knows when to take his foot off the gas pedal. He gives it all a gentle nudge with a little swing, as he combines old-school sensibility with a contemporary edge.

Fri May 5, 2017

7pm Opener: Johnny Scarecrow

Where: The Falcon Main Stage

https://www.facebook.com/JethroTullTribute/

Newly formed ensemble, Johnny Scarecrow, pays tribute to the music of Jethro Tull – the iconic UK band of the 60s-70s who incorporated elements of British folk and progressive rock.

Johnny Scarecrow will be presenting music from Tull’s earlier works, and is especially excited to be opening for Terry Reid, who in fact, opened for Jethro Tull on their first tour in 1969.

Their mission is to turn on a new generation of fans to the often underappreciated genius of Jethro Tull’s leader/vocalist/flautist/guitarist, Ian Anderson.

Fri May 5, 2017

7pm Terry Reid and the Cosmic American Derelicts

Where: The Falcon Main Stage

http://www.terryreid.com/

‘….The most soulful British vocalist ever…’ The Independent

‘A triumph…Terry Reid’s voice has the power to provoke intense reaction [4 Stars] -The Times of London

‘…Astonishing by any standards: spine tingles, hair prickles on back of the neck…’ The Independent ‘…When Reid bares those emotions it’s heartbreakingly beautiful…’ The Guardian

Terry Reid, affectionately known as Superlungs, is undoubtedly one of the great rock/soul voices in the genre’s history. A Terry Reid concert is a cherished memory for any self-respecting fan of the greats of British rock…simply unmissable!

Much is made of Terry Reid’s career – particularly as the man who turned down the vocalist slot in Led Zeppelin (and recommended Robert Plant to Jimmy Page). Yet, few mention his triumphs. Following a seemingly endless search for a sound and methodology to suit his incredible voice, Reid struck creative gold by the early 70s and “RIVER” was to be his masterpiece. High profile tours in the US throughout the late 60s supporting Cream and the Rolling Stones, Reid honed his craft into something almost totally new for the time. He’d befriended legendary multi-instrumentalist David Lindley of the psychedelic world music pioneers, Kaleidoscope, whose slide work graces “RIVER”. Superlungs, a documentary about the life and music career of Terry Reid is currently in production.

Where: The Falcon Underground

http://thevibetheory.com/

Featuring:

Shane McCaughey/Vocals/Guitar, Jose Lopez/Guitar, Chris Gordon/Bass, Ben Saldinger/Keys, Jamiles Lartey/Drums and Joanna Teters/Vocals

Brooklyn based 5-piece, The Vibe Theory, was born out of a love for soul music.  This central tenet

Joanna Teters

http://www.joannateters.com/

Vocalist, Joanna Teters is carving a place for herself in the hearts and minds of today’s music lovers, increasingly recognized for her ability to switch effortlessly from lush, sultry tones to rugged reggae and blues.

http://www.johnnya.com/

“Johnny A. has paid his dues as one of Boston’s most admired rock guitarists. – The Boston Globe

“A wild, woolly, wonderful lesson in where the guitar has been and where it might beheaded. If Johnny A. isn’t familiar to every guitar-head in America….there’s no justice in this world. “- AllAboutJazz

As a sideman, Johnny A has played with Santana percussionist Mingo Lewis, drummer Doug Clifford (Creedence Clearwater Revival) and keyboardist Bobby Whitlock (Delaney & Bonnie, Derek & the Dominos),followed by a seven-year stint as guitarist and musical director with The J. Geils Band frontman Peter Wolf. Johnny A. launched his solo career and released his debut CD “Sometime Tuesday Morning”, which spawned the #1 single “Oh Yeah” across the USA on the AAA radio format- the first time in over a decade that an instrumental had achieved radio’s top spot. “STM” went on to sell over 90,000 copies. In 2003, the Gibson Custom Guitar company in close collaboration with Johnny A released a “Johnny A.” Signature Model guitar designed to the artist’s specifications. To this day it is one of the company’s most successful “signature” model guitars. “Get Inside” was released in 2004, yielding two radio singles, “I Had To Laugh,” and the title track “Get Inside.” “One November Night”, is a memorable live DVD/CD set recorded at Sculler’s Jazz in his hometown of Boston, MA. His most ambitious album to date, “Driven”, marks his engineering debut as well as mixing, producing and playing all the instruments on the album. In 2014 Johnny A. was inducted into the Boston Music Hall of Fame at the Boston Music Awards.
