Memorial Day Parade -100 years ago a young man from Marlborough gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving his country. His name was Charles Viebey. Charles died when his ship, the USS Mt Vernon, was hit by a U-Boat torpedo in the English Channel on September 5, 1918. During WWII, Myron Sutton, another townsman, also suffered the same fate. Since the local American Legion honored these brave young men by memorializing Post 124 as the Marlborough Viebey-Sutton American Legion.
Memorial Day weekend is a time where citizens throughout the United States honor the fallen and carry tradition forward, For God and Country. The Marlborough American Legion Viebey-Sutton Post 124 Memorial Day Parade is Sunday May 26th. The parade will start at the High School, march through town, and culminate the Elementary School with a brief ceremony. The theme of the parade will be “Celebrating 100 Years of the American Legion and Viebey-Sutton Post 124”.
We hope that community members will partake of this event, remembering the past, honoring those who served and hoping for a great future.
