RoseAnn Fino grew up in the artistically fertile Hudson Valley, close enough to feel New York City’s electricity. Dylan, Neil, Bruce, Patti, Nyro, The Beatles, The Band, Fleetwood Mac, and Ani Difranco, entered her consciousness long before reading, writing, and arithmetic. When she was five her father put a guitar in her hands and eighteen years later she still hasn’t put it down.
A kiss on the head from Patti Smith when she was eight, a pick from Bob Dylan’s steel guitar player when she was ten – these moments shaped her drive to become a performer. Fino moved to New York City when she was just seventeen, and began writing tunes about booze-fueled nights and tongue-in-cheek love. She studied writing and music performance at Hunter College. A plucky, awkwardly dressed country girl, she played her songs at open mics, and found her voice: a mix of city punk with country/Americana roots.
When she went into the studio with producer Aaron L. Hurwitz (Professor Louie & The Crowmatix; The Band) to record her debut album in 2013, it started to come together. Featured on the recording is the legendary group Professor Louie & The Crowmatix with guitarist John Platania (Van Morrison). The album was released on Woodstock Records, solidifying her expressive singing and distinctive style.
Roseann was back in the studio in 2015, at Atomic Sound Studios Brooklyn, with a bunch of friends and recorded her latest EP “Out From Under” in one day. Taking a different approach, she co-produced the album with her musical companion and beloved bandmate Ryan Shapiro. “Out From Under” will be released September 2015.
Roseann Fino’s full length album can be found on Spotify and iTunes.
“The 23-year-old has vast potential, not only with her guitar prowess but also her talent as a slightly unorthodox singer who writes fearlessly about life and love while performing with easygoing confidence.”
– The Blade (Ohio)
“Finding that sweet spot like a heat seeking missile with a GPS, this is a welcoming set that young and old ears can enjoy equally. Hot stuff throughout.”- Midwest Records
“Fino finds the emotional heart of all these songs with her expressive voice, without trying too hard, because she doesn’t need to. She doesn’t imitate anyone, trusts her instincts, writes hard and deep, and then surrounds herself with great musicians.” – Daily Freeman
“These tunes are indelible and fresh, and, with Fino’s having grown up on a Hudson Valley farm and later moving to New York, they reflect the extremes of her stomping grounds”. – Chronogram
