Understanding Seizures, Epilepsy, and the Quest for Seizure Freedom

Sunday, September 10, 3:00pm

Seizures can present in many ways and do not always manifest as a convulsion.  Epilepsy is a disease affecting the electrical activity of the brain that can lead to recurrent seizures.  According to the World Health Organization, approximately 5 million people are diagnosed with epilepsy each year and between 4-10 per 1,000 people have active epilepsy requiring treatment.  Epilepsy can occur at any stage in life and can greatly impact an individual’s quality of life.  However, treatment options are rapidly improving and the community should be aware of new medications, options for neuromodulation and minimally invasive surgeries, as well as treatment through pregnancy for safe and healthy outcomes of mother and baby.

We welcome expert adult and pediatric epilepsy providers, serving the Hudson Region Valley and members of the American Epilepsy Society, Epilepsy Foundation, and National Association of Epilepsy Centers, Manisha Holmes, MD, Patricia McGoldrick, NP, and Steven Wolf, MD from WMC/MFCH/BCHP to speak to our community about this important topic.

Click here to RSVP. Walk-ins welcome.
