Join us at the Marlboro Library on Tuesday, November 13 at 7:00 pm as we welcome back Don Fraser, educator at Staatsburgh State Historic Site, as he gives another fascinating glimpse into a bygone era.  This time he will be discussing the impact of WWI on millionaires in the twilight of the Gilded Age.

In the Gilded Age, the world’s attention was captured by the explosive growth of new industries, the vast wealth that they created for their owners….and the utterly frivolous ways that some of the millionaires spent their money. But when World War I came, the world’s attention turned to far more serious matters.

The war brought a storm of social change that brought one era to an end as they ushered in the next; such as income tax, new opportunities for women, and new labor-saving inventions. One by one, these transformations hammered the nails into the coffin of the Gilded Age.
