On Saturday, June 25th, the Hudson Valley Celtic Festival will kick off its inaugural event on the grounds of the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, NY.
Attendees will enjoy Pipe Band Competitions, individual solo piping and drumming competitions, and Irish music, plus dancing. In addition, guests can feast on ethnic and festival foods, from Scottish meat pies and fish n ’chips to cupcakes. On top of the great cuisine, there will be a ‘Beer Tent’ with Guinness, Harp, Strongbow, & Saranac Pale Ale on tap, with the Hooley Shooters providing entertainment. Starting at 8 a.m., more than sixty soloists, both bagpipers and drummers, will perform for the judges. Eleven pipe bands will compete from approximately 1 – 5 P.M.. The competitors will be traveling from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont to participate in the day’s contests. One of the organizers, Marlboro resident, Brendan O’Reilly stated, “Some of the top named judges will be officiating this EUSPBA (Eastern United States Pipe Band Association) sanctioned competition. World renowned piper Bruce Gandy will be on-site, as well as drumming guru, Hugh Cameron. It will be a great day of music and fun. So, mark your calendars and join us for our debut !”
The closing ceremony will consist of a ‘Mass Bands’, when all of the pipers and drummers play and march together. The event will also be raising funds for the Wounded Warrior Project and local Marlboro resident, E6 Staff Sgt. Gene R Cirillo, a Marine Veteran.
Visitors can eat, drink, and be merry until 8 P.M., among breathtaking views across the Valley…
